Amanda - Oh man, that looks absolutely rich and moist ! Tortes are awesome due to the lack of flour and I haven’t made one in months and months. I would probably use 1 cup of preserves instead of 1/2 raspberry liquid though. That’d be ok, right?

Gemma - I’m sure that would be fine. It is possible it would make the final product a bit less moist, but it would definitely be worth a try.

Carolyn - This sounds wonderful! We have a large event coming up, do you think I could freeze The torte until a day or two before the event then thaw & glaze? Or even do the entire thing, glaze and all, and freeze?

Gemma - I think you could definitely freeze the torte for a day or two. I’m not sure about the glaze, but it would probably work.
Great idea!

The Petrie Family Applesauce Cake

My grandmother, Mary Lou, always brings a delicious applesauce cake to family birthdays.  The cake is hearty and wholesome and it is dressed with a decadent penuche frosting — and often a small bouquet of wildflowers. I recently asked her to share the recipe with me and she sent along some family history as well. […]

Gemma - Hi Sophie, Thanks for your interest. Feel free to link to this post, but because it is a family recipe, I’d rather not have it reproduced in full.
Thanks and happy holidays!

My maiden name was Petrie and my grandparents whom I never met came from Scotland to the USA years ago then my Dad’s family moved to the Canadian West then my Dad moved on to Nova Scotia where I live now. Nice to think I may be related to this grandmother. lync@eastlink.ca

Roasted Red Peppers and Peas

When it is really hot out, I find that I enjoy small snacks in place of large meals. Grazing on nuts, fruits and cheeses with a cool drink in hand is a relaxing way to spend a humid evening. Hummus is a delicious (and quick) addition to any lazy dinner or appetizer spread, and these […]

kickpleat - i love dips in the summertime (anytime, really). they both look so good…the pea one especially. yum.

Marie - I love your ricotta “hummus” idea! I love all things ricotta. Grazing is a fun way to eat when it’s hot and humid, I agree.
