I’m glad to hear that you guys are trying to make soda. My older brother used to make root beers and different sodas when we helped him make beer as kids. I think it was his way of rewarding us for helping him. I remember the sodas being really good– except that he once made a cream soda that was really weird. He hasn’t made any soda since my younger sister and I are both of age… but maybe now that he has kids he’ll try again. Best of luck to you both!

s.e.s. - That’s a beautiful photo. Though that does not look like spinach, but water spinach, which is quite a different vegetable. I’m curious to know which one it is. Garlic kangkung or water-spinach is simply the best thing on earth!

bitey - i’m a lurker and i’ve been enjoying your blog for a while. when i saw the post about waupaca i knew i had to leave a comment…i’m from wisconsin (a small town east of waupaca actually), i lived in chicago for 6 years and now we’re in baltimore. (it was a strange journey from WI > chicago > madison > baltimore) it’s great to see info on chicago, baltimore, and now WI. will you be going to weasel’s or two lakes? my mom lives for their shrimp pizza…

Terry B - What a lovely post! I’m going to send it to a Baltimore friend. Regarding solitary travel, I think people sometimes confuse loneliness and solitude. The solitude can actually be quite pleasant at times. Choosing what to do, what to see, where to eat and such without consulting anyone else. But after a couple or few days, I’m ready to be sharing my experiences with someone.
Bonus points to Nick, by the way. I haven’t been to Fleur yet–glad to know it’s such a nice shop.
