mindy - mmmmmmm.

michele - Hi Gemma, sounds like a lovely visit, and I love the picture of the sheep, they are quite adorable. The feast looks fantastic and I cant help but wonder if that is a slice of Chris’ famous olive bread on the last picture. It looks yummy. You two are definitely feasting well on this trip of yours.
I hope you enjoy Belgium!

J - hi gemma, what gorgeous pictures…sounds like you had a really lovely time…i really like the looks of all that bread…

gemma - Indeed Mindy, I miss you.
That is indeed the olive bread Michele, so good! Belgium was amazing, thanks for the well-wishes. I hope you are well too.
J, it was pretty superb! There is something so amazing to me about living in a place where nearly everything is not only locally produced, but also of amazing quality.

John - Tom and Chris look suspiciously like sheep.

tara - It alarms me to admit, but the cheese and marmite bread sounds rather appealing! Marmite is a staple in my parents’ household, and every one in a while I will “try” it again, but still have not acquired the taste. However, the look and texture of that bread may make me a convert!

Marcie Tambone - Gemma!!
Talked to your Mom the other day and she told me what you are up to, I think it is wonderful. I’m so glad you are getting this experience. I did a little hitch-hiking in Europa during the summer of 1968, I was twenty. Best thing for a young person, to see where we came from and how others are living. And, oh my!, the bakeries are heaven.
Your friend looks nice! Even with a mouthful from Mr. Sandwich. BTW, the photos are breath taking.
Marcie

Melissa - Wow! everything looks so beautiful and the yummy food is everywhere!!!! have a fabolous time—and please keep us posted :) Hugs from rainy Panama!

gemma - Tara, it was so good! I too was a tepid Marmite fan before this bread.
Hi Marcie,
So nice to hear from you! I hope you are well. We are having a fantastic time, and yes, John is great!
Thanks Melissa! We are having definitely having fun!

Goodbye Garden

Since John and I have left Chicago and our garden will look substantially different when we return in February, I wanted to publicly thank it for turning it’s back on the drought and producing tasty things. Also, thanks to Ben Spicer for sharing his plot with John and I. I learned a lot about gardening […]

tara - How very romantic, peaking through a bakery at night like that! It sounds absolutely heavenly at the end of some drinking, and Colin seems a doll.

gemma - It was pretty magical Tara. There is nothing like fresh hot bread, especially at unexpected times on cold blustery Scottish isles. Colin was very sweet for letting us intrude on his work and showing me around (and for making those tasty snack, of course!)

Pille - Hi Gemma – you really seem to be enjoying your Eurotour! And you’ve been to places in Scotland that I haven’t visited yet despite of living here for 6 years;(
I posted a list of 50 things a foodie should do in Scotland at my blog the other day (it was published in Scotsman on Sunday paper) – it would be great to hear your comments on that! The direct link is here:

gemma - Hi Pille,
I regret to say that I didn’t do anything on your list! We were only able to stay for a few days due to the cost. I wish I had seen your list before though!

Ruth - Hi there, wow! That’s the bakery my dad owned up until last year, and Colin took it over! We also moved premises and took over Aulds in 2005 too, I’m glad you had a great time and Electric Bakery helped make your time there so memorable. I’m from bute and I miss it but it touches me to see so many nice things said about something that means so much to me and I have grown up with.
Kind regards,
Ruth
Would there be any chance of getting a copy of the photos??x

tara - Dry or not, those all look amazing. I cannot help but sigh at the thought of a good boulangerie or patisserie. I’ll admit, my heart lies with the former, but I would never scorn the sweet treats of the latter.

Pille - I’ve been to that shop a few times when in London, just to drool at their display!!! Glad to hear you’re enjoying your UK adventure!

gemma - Hi Tara, it was all delicious. We were snacking in style compared to the other passengers on our busride to Glasgow a few weeks back.
Hi Pille,
Their displays are truly drool-worthy. I had a croissant at one of their shops in Paris, Mmmm.

Patisserie Lover - Last night my wife and I were celebrating our anniversary in London. On our way home we impulsively stopped off at Paul’s and bought the most delicious hot chocolate ever. Really thick and rich. We also bought some palmiers to dunk into too. Now that has got to be the most indulgent combination ever! Magnificent!

gemma - Hi Patisserie Lover,
After reading your comment I have been kicking myself for not trying their palmiers. . I almost ordered a few but I already had so much in the bag. If only I could try it all. . . It is a fantastic place though. It sounds like you and your wife had a great snack. Happy anniversary to you both!
